Commenting on the latest rescue plan for Thames Water announced today (Thursday), UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“The chaos at Thames Water has dragged on for years, yet these latest proposals still don’t provide the clarity customers or staff need.
“Once again, there are promises of investment and debt restructuring but no details on what that means for water bills, jobs or the environment.
“The current debacle is the legacy of failed privatisation, which burdened Thames Water with billions of pounds of debt, gave generous payouts to shareholders and put profit before services.
“The time has come for ministers to step in and bring the company into public ownership.”
