World Menopause Day 2023

  • 18 October 2023

Sefton UNISON continues to campaign for better workplaces and better conditions for women in Sefton experiencing the menopause.

Nearly 80% of menopausal women are in the workplace and Sefton UNISON in conjunction with Sefton Council & New Directions are working to help employers understand the effects of the menopause. While everyone experiences it differently, 59% of women say their symptoms have had a negative impact on their work.

Our trained reps negotiate practical policies with employers to keep you healthy and safe, promote the benefits of a supportive and flexible environment, and help to protect you from discrimination.

The Menopause Champions are there to help you both directly & indirectly, by providing support, guidance & advice to colleagues and managers who may be quite unaware of just how varied & impactful menopausal symptoms can be.

Menopause Champions : Sefton UNISON

For too long talking about the menopause has been taboo, or at the very least trivialised or treated as embarrassing by bosses & even colleagues. This pOlicy highlights the fact that it is a significant workplace issue that can adversely affect the working lives and careers of women, and therefore needs to be taken far more seriously by employers as a matter of urgency. – Jane Evanson : Branch Officer Sefton UNISON
