One of the most important elements of the Employment Rights Bill (ERB) currently making its way through Parliament is the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB).
UNISON has lobbied hard for the new body, which will negotiate pay, terms and conditions, as well as training and development, for all school support staff in England, including those in academies and academy trusts.
But many of the details are still to be determined. To that end, the Department for Education (DfE) is currently consulting on the future set up of the body, with three questions:
- How to define ‘school support staff’ – to confirm which staff are within the SSSNB’s remit
- Current pay and condition arrangements
- Whether to include agency workers in the scope of the SSSNB in future legislation.
The DfE is inviting anyone with an interest to take part. And UNISON is urging its members to have their say.
