Commenting on the latest advice from the Climate Change Committee to end the UK’s contribution to global warming published today (Wednesday), UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“It’s still not too late for the UK to get back on track to a greener future. But as this report shows, only if the right levers are pulled.
“That means investing in worthwhile green jobs and infrastructure, as well as convincing the public and the workforces affected that this is the path to prosperity and a more secure future.
“Communities and workers most affected by the transformation to a greener, safer and more stable economy want firm plans. Families on tight budgets will need help to buy expensive green kit.
“Unlike the last government, which ended up in the high court over its climate failures, Labour ministers must show they’ll meet these challenges right away. Not some time in the future when the horse has bolted.”
