Commenting on chancellor Rachel Reeves’ announcements about increased funding for public transport projects, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“Vast swathes of the UK are poorly served by transport links. This substantial investment will make a huge difference to working people and their communities.
“The availability and high cost of property means many nurses, care workers, teaching assistants and other public sector employees are forced to travel ever-longer distances to get to their jobs.
“Anything that makes the journey shorter and less stressful can only have a positive effect on these workers and the essential services they help run.”
