Responding to Rachel Reeves’ speech at Labour conference today (Monday) UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“It was reassuring to hear the chancellor talk up the package of employment rights that’s about to transform the lives of at least a million working people.
“These changes are popular and show the difference a Labour government, working with unions, can make.
“The government needs to be able to show the public why they would be better off under Labour. That means investing in public services, tackling the cost-of-living crisis and delivering a fair welfare system that supports the poorest in society.
“It would have been good to hear the chancellor make a commitment to raising money by taxing wealth, which could then be invested in essential public services.”
