UNISON utterly condemns the continued military assault and bombardment of Gaza, which has further intensified in recent weeks.
The latest evacuation orders and assault on the city of Deir al-Balah adds to the 86.3 percent of Gaza already under displacement orders or within a militarised zone.
Israeli government plans to force the population of Gaza into a deportation camp built on the ruins of southern Gaza can only be understood as ethnic cleansing, and we totally condemn them.
The almost total blockade of humanitarian assistance into Gaza has led to extraordinary levels of starvation.
On Sunday 93 people were reportedly killed whilst waiting for humanitarian assistance, including crowds near a UN aid convoy. Hundreds more have been killed by Israeli fire whilst seeking assistance from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
We urge the UK Government to take immediate action in support of a permanent ceasefire and full access to humanitarian assistance. This must include suspending the UK-Israel trade and partnership agreement and fully suspending the arms trade until international law is respected, banning trade with the illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and applying further sanctions on the settlements and government ministers.
The Government must also immediately recognise the state of Palestine as an important contribution to a two-state solution.
