UNISON members working for Livv Housing, on Merseyside, who are striking over pay, spoke about their action to the union’s community seminar in Bristol today.
Their long-running dispute stems from years of below-inflation pay increases, and UNISON says the employer must make an offer that goes some way to addressing a real-terms pay cut of 30% since 2011.
Individual teams who work in repairs, maintenance and the housing association’s call centre took strike action in October, November and January. The latest strike has run throughout February, affecting 13,000 homes across Merseyside.
UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea made special mention of the strikers, when opening her speech to the seminar.
“The Livv Housing workers are standing together and standing up for each other. They’re in dispute, seeking fair pay and facing some truly shocking behaviour from their employer,” she said.
“I joined them on the picket line and spoke with members earlier this month. I want Livv Housing members to know that you have my full support and the full support of our union.”
