The fight to stop Reform UK goes on

  • 12 May 2026

In last week’s elections, Reform UK won seats in the Scottish parliament and Senedd, and took control of a further 14 councils in England.

UNISON believes that Reform is a party of billionaires and businessmen, which represents a threat to public services. They are of huge concern to UNISON members working in the public sector.

But among the division that Reform UK are seeking to sow, members have been finding strength and unity in the union’s Responding to Reform UK network.

Over 1,000 UNISON activists have been involved in the network over recent weeks, sharing resources and materials, and having conversations with colleagues at work and campaigning publicly to deter people from voting for the party.

Sarah George in North Devon, who is part of the network, said: “Farage is dangerous, he is another Trump. If he gains any more power he will not only destroy low paid workers pensions, he will wholesale undermine and remove rights for all whilst taking millions from tax exile to fund his ego and lifestyle”

Now, in the lead up to the 2029 general election, members in the network are preparing to double their efforts.

Glen Williams, from Sefton, said, “I am a committed trade union activist and anti-racist who believes we should be part of creating a better, more unified, compassionate and diverse community. Our legacy should be to make our world safer, more peaceful and fairer. Reform seem intent on creating the exact opposite.”

One retired adult social worker who wished to remain anonymous said, “I have a son with a disability, and my other son is gay. I am scared for their future and everyone else’s. Reform UK is a vile, grotesque group who enjoy spreading division.”

UNISON members have already spoken out about what it’s like to work in a Reform-run council, where flooding committees have been scrapped and thousands of public funds have been spent on St George’s flags.

The fight to stop Reform UK in the upcoming general election begins now. If you believe in unity over division, join the Responding to Reform network
