Holocaust Memorial Day 2024

  • 1 February 2024

In this week of Holocaust Memorial Day 2024, the UK commemorates those lost to The Holocaust. This year’s theme, as chosen by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, is ‘Fragility of freedom’. This year’s event takes place at the same time as a significant reported rise in the number of both antisemitic and anti-Muslim incidents in the UK, seemingly in response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the wider Middle East. Sefton UNISON offers support to all our Members, of all faiths or none, in these troubled times.

This past week has seen bitterly cold temperatures on Merseyside and our thoughts are drawn to those men, women & children kept in minus temperatures without clothing, shoes etc. A bare 8 decades ago, still within living memory, we must all work to ensure that such horrors are never again faced by mankind.

With the cold very much in mind, our wonderful members in Sefton Council’s Community Equipment Services have very kindly donated:

  • 12 pairs of socks
  • 11 hats (2 of which were hat/glove sets
  • 11 pairs of gloves
  • Toddler PJs
  • Kids’ boots
  • A fabulous kid’s Everton Coat

These are all being donated to local charities to help the vulnerable.
