A delegation of 6 from our branch attended the Local Government Service Group and 4 at the National Delegation Conference. For the first time our Environment Officer Lee joined the Group for both conferences, this is what they had to say about it…
It was a privilege to represent our membership at the conference and to look at things from an environmental view.
Although the three key motions around environmental issues did not get debated – the motions centred around climate change and public transport, I learnt a lot from the fringe meetings and how the big conference system works. I was planning to speak on those motions – there is always next year. A challenge for next year is to make sure environmental issues are threaded through all the proposed motions where appropriate before they get to conference.
The next conference will be held in Brighton and during the year work will be ongoing at branch and regional level to prepare. If you have any particular issues of concern then please do bring them to the attention of your local Branch.
Take a look at the newsletter and find out more about the terrifying human rights abuses, murders, imprisonment and violence against the indigenous people represented on the panel from Turkey, Palestine and Columbia.
We speak about the Good Business Matters Campaign, the Net Zero Challenge and #WeMakeTomorrow collective actions.
And don’t forget about UNISON Green Week which runs from Friday 15th September 2023 through to Friday 22nd September!
