Nominate your Local Services Champions for 2025

  • 5 December 2024

Today is Champions Day.

Every year, UNISON celebrates and defends local government workers for the everyday heroes they are – and our Local Service Champions awards help do that.

Local government workers go above and beyond the call of duty to keep local services going, yet their efforts are often overlooked. We depend upon them to provide critical services that hold our communities together.

UNISON celebrates the invaluable contributions that local authority staff make to our lives. That’s why we’re raising the profile of these unsung heroes and everything that they do.

Without great people running our local services, our communities would suffer. As well as celebrating their work, we must ensure they are paid fairly and with fair terms and conditions.

UNISON will continue to represent the best interests of all our members working within local councils and providing local services.

The nomination period opens today and runs until 17 January.

You can submit nominations via the campaign page.

The three winners will be presented with their awards at local government conference in Liverpool next summer.

If you want to nominate a colleague, then they must be a member and have consented to being nominated. They’ll need to come to conference and will have a film made about them, while there might also be other requests – for instance, parliamentary visits.

So get nominating – and if you need some inspiration, then take a few minutes to watch a film about this year’s winner, Lewisham community relations manager Alys Exley-Smith, talking with actor Sally Lindsay here.
