We’re delighted to celebrate ten years of UNISON’s Stars in Our Schools which in turn, celebrates the incredible work & devotion of support staff in the education sector.
UNISON is the largest union for school support staff and a recent national event provided the opportunity for MPs to show their support for the campaign and hear from speakers on the importance of these key roles.
Secretary of state for education Bridget Phillipson MP said:
“The work that support staff do is vital. Schools couldn’t operate without you, it really is that simple.
This country owes our support staff an enormous debt of gratitude for all your hard work. And that hard work is crucial in ensuring that we give our children the very best start in life.”
Over the last decade. our team hasn’t only been working throughout the year to support & negotiate on behalf of school support staff but have often been seen laden with cake & goody bags too – it’s our way of showing some appreciation for the fabulous work that goes on, often unseen.
It takes entire teams to keep schools and nurseries going. Children are kept safe and healthy by cleaners, catering staff, crossing patrol officers and child protection officers. They learn and excel with the help of teaching and classroom assistants, librarians and technicians. Early years staff & school support staff together do far more than simply facilitate learning – they help create an environment where children and young people are secure, happy, safe & motivated.
Not forgetting that nurseries and schools throughout Sefton run smoothly thanks to the work of admin assistants, finance officers and business managers. These are just some of the roles our members carry out in nurseries and schools throughout the UK.
Here in Sefton, we celebrate support staff in schools as we believe our members are the back bone in every school and we love it when so many of our schools celebrate with us by hosting special assemblies, coffee mornings or special lunch times.
