Staff call off industrial action at Transport for Greater Manchester, says UNISON

  • 24 December 2024

Around 300 workers employed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have today (Monday) called off industrial action after agreeing an improved pay deal, says their union UNISON.

The employees, who undertake a variety of roles across the Greater Manchester transport network, voted in favour of the deal.

This will see wages for the lowest paid workers increase by up to 8.9%. In addition to improvements to the basic pay rate for all grades, there will be a doubling of standby and call-out payments, backdated to April.

In addition, TfGM has made a commitment to improve its family-friendly policies early in the new year and revise role profiles for workers who earn below £14 an hour by April 2025.

UNISON North West regional officer Kevin Dolan said: “It’s satisfying to have reached a conclusion to this dispute finally.

“The deal will see staff benefit both financially and they will experience other improvements to their working lives too.

“The union looks forward to sitting down with transport managers next month to enhance the existing but less than adequate family-friendly policies too.”

Notes to editors:
– Staff walked out on Thursday 12 and 13 December. Action due to take place from Friday 20 December until today (Monday) was paused following talks. Further strike dates had also been earmarked for Thursday 2 to Wednesday 15 January 2025.
– The dispute also involved transport staff who belong to Unite.
– UNISON is the UK’s largest union with more than 1.3 million members providing public services in education, local government, the NHS, police service and energy. They are employed in the public, voluntary and private sectors.
