UNISON signs disability charter with Newcastle council leaders

  • 27 March 2025
Preparing to sign the charter, Newcastle City Council chief executive Pam Smith, council leader Karen Kilgour and Christina McAnea

UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea visited the Northern region today (Thursday).

Christina joined Councillor Karen Kilgour, the leader of Newcastle City Council and Pam Smith, the chief executive, in signing the Disability Employment Charter – a vital step in improving the working lives of disabled people. UNISON is proud to stand together for equality in the workplace.

Later, at the UNISON Northern regional council AGM, she gave a speech highlighting the union’s growing membership, the rise in active union reps and activists and the real, lasting change that is being achieved through successful campaigning.

Ms McAnea noted that: “Every win is a win for our members” and described the day as “inspiring”.
