Elections!! UNISON urged all its Members to vote, vote and vote again!

The NEC is the National lay elected Committee of our Union and Ballot Papers were sent to your homes . The results will be out in June and thanks to all who took part.

The General and Local Elections also took place on May 7th and Merseyside (and Sefton) bucked the trend with Labour Councillors increasing their numbers to 42 out of the 66 seats in the Council. Incredibly, Blundellsands 3 years had 3 Tory Councillors and now has three Labour ones. This is down to simple hard work and establishing a high visible profile in the local community matching its neighbour, Manor Ward which also has total Labour majority. Peter Dowd, a UNISON Member, easily swept aside Deputy UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall and became Bootle MP with the biggest majority (nearly 29,000) in the country!
Bill Esterson secured Sefton Central trebling his majority whilst major Labour inroads were made into the historical lead held in Southport but with Lib Dem John Pugh also bucking the national trend being one of only a handful of that party to survive.
The win by the Tories will mean attacks to trade unions, our members, our activists and our services but we fight on and will continue to resist ideologically driven attacks.
